Since becoming an on-air radio personality for the historic 95.5 WBRU, Peter Wright, better known as Souleo, has become one of Southern New England’s most popular and well-respected on-air personalities with his dynamic and energetic personality, lively discussions, and commitment to the community. Souleo has booked and interviewed over 90 of the entertainment industry’s most celebrated and recognized names with a diverse list that includes an exclusive interview with Don Cornelius, Liza Minnelli, Whoopi Goldberg, Ne-Yo, LeAnn Rimes, Dashboard Confessional, and many more. It was perseverance and hard work which led to Souleo landing his three hour show on the station’s popular, “The 360 Degree Black Experience in Sound,” which is also Southern New England’s 1 weekly radio show. “There were days in the beginning and even now when I’m up until 5 or 6 in the morning, sending out follow-up emails to book my interviews, doing research and developing questions for the next day’s interview, and brainstorming ways to create the most unique listening experience that I can offer my listeners,” says the dedicated on-air personality. Souleo’s commitment to his craft is only one facet of his personality that has been able to gain the respect and confidence of some of the industry’s brightest stars. Souleo has humored Chaka Khan, impressed the legendary Don Cornelius in a highly sought-after rare exclusive interview, talked politics and social issues with Cyndi Lauper, and charmed everyone from the legendary rock band Chicago to industry executive Richard D. Parsons, CEO of Time Warner. The enthusiasm, radiance, and warmth that Souleo exudes that have contributed to his success are gifts that he attributes to his mother who passed away in early 2007. “My mother’s spirit is still with me and forever will be. One of the greatest gifts she gave me is the joy of having fun and celebrating everyday of life. She laughed, she joked, she danced, she sang, and she lived. For me that’s the spirit that I carry with me as an on-air personality. I want to celebrate life and inspire people to have a good time,” says Souleo. For Souleo, celebrating life also means getting to the heart of important matters. As a radio personality he has demonstrated his commitment to the community and to addressing relevant social topics by developing the segments “What’s On Your Mind?” and “Lift Up the People,” which features the thoughts of everyday listeners, and the latter which profiles celebrities that are actively giving back to the community. Plus, his company, Souleo Enterprises, co-produces an annual benefit concert for youth music education programs. “For me just interviewing celebrities and being on the red carpet means nothing if I can’t use those opportunities to raise awareness and be a voice for positive change,” says the passionate Souleo. Passion is the driving force behind this NYC native’s numerous achievements. It is his passion and drive that also led to his success on the NYC open-mic poetry circuit and as a model for MTV/MasterCard, Scholastic Books, Tae Bo and more. Souleo is currently making progress towards his end goal of creating a multi-media empire with recent advances as music editor for aRude Magazine, songwriter, Head of A&R for the independent record label, TarPaul Records, and as a fashion designer. In addition, Souleo is aware of the importance of education and is currently a senior completing his degree as an English major at Brown University, Class of ’07.5. Souleo is proof that with spirit, positive energy, and a whole lot of soul life’s possibilities are endless.
