“Just as The Concretes looked like they were going to get big, lead singer Victoria Bergsman left them behind her to record as Taken by Trees. Hers was the sweet voice playing opposite the male singer in the super-catchy "Young Folks" single by Peter, Bjorn, and John. This Swedish singer turned her melancholy voice towards an unexpected cover of "Sweet Child O' Mine" by Guns 'N Roses, prettying up the melody of the original and making it sound like something Belle & Sebastian might perform. It's some serious musical alchemy and the result is pure gold.”

“In what might be a subtle update of "It's My Party" (and I'll Cry If I Want To), the singular bedroom rocker with the plural name We Were Pirates sings sweetly to a slow indie rock beat, exhorting party-goers: "Everybody in this whole damn place get on the floor / 'cause we're not leaving 'til everybody gets down." So why don't we believe him when he says everyone's having a great time at this party? The emotional tone is flat and sad, a cousin to the ironic tone adopted by The Bloodhound Gang when they mumbled Parliament-Funkadelic lyrics. There's snacks and drinks and games... so why don't We Were Pirates sound like they're having fun?”

“A perfect rock/pop song. San Francisco's own LoveLikeFire bring the heat with this drum-propelled piece of perfection. I spent WEEKS with this song running through my head. So if you're prone to earworms, be very careful before dropping money here.”

“A Norwegian singer brings new life to a classic Pixies song with "Break My Body."
Somehow, her delicate voice makes the madcap narration of the song more compelling, and menacing.
The instrumentation is more meditative than the jangly guitar attack of the original. The Pixies' soft-loud-soft is replaced with strings and accordian. It's beautiful.
As they say, it's all fun and games until "somebody got hurt."”
