About Me

Hi. My name is Ry Moran. I am the person who you are listening to. This album means a lot to me and I think you will find that it is a very personal album. Most of you will be familiar with some of the topics on the album...Butterfly, Dreams of Grey and No Good Reason are about good old fashioned love in all it's forms. I first wrote Butterfly about three years ago when my now wife and I were separated for a time. It was the song that I wrote for her just before she left. Needless to say, it was a brutal experience to go through...one of the worst in my life. When we reworked the piece for this album, a lot of those old memories came back and both JB (the producer) and I were actually left feeling sick to our stomachs after putting the first version down on tape. Some of the other content on the album might not be quite so familiar. Red River is written about my Metis history. The Metis are an aboriginal group from the central region of Canada. In the late 18th century, a number of significant events took place on the plains that placed the Metis at odds with the government and powers of the day. In the end, the Metis and the Canadians squared off in what remains the largest battle ever fought on Canadian soil. Red River was the traditional homeland for the Metis, and like so many cultural and ethnic groups across the world, we were displaced from this homeland via war, aggression and persecution. The song is not a sob-story, but more of a personal reflection on what happened in the past. Have a listen to the rest of the album and let me know what you like. As far as what else I am up to, I live on the west coast of Canada and spend as much of my time as possible out on the ocean or hiking around the forest, although travel and the times commitments required to write and market an album sometimes cut into that. I've always been big into the outdoors and have been an avid rock-climber, mountaineer and mountain biker for a long time. I like films and watch a lot of them. I studied Political Science and History in both Europe and in Canada. I have travelled a great deal. Thanks for reading...if you can give me feedback, I would love to write back. Ry
