Mike Maven is the driven, passionate, multi-faceted songwriter / producer / band leader of his Boston based performance ensemble, Mike Maven and the Goodlife. In live performances, the Goodlife delivers a powerful aesthetic show of original songs that allude to their covers of classic and modern songs that define their sound and philosophy. On record, Mike Maven is a talented and well seasoned producer and recording engineer with a unique style, taking his passionately written songs to many new levels of enjoyment and musicianship.
Blending Singer/Songwriter Rock with true R&B and New York Hip Hop, Mike Maven is regarded as a passionate and well informed performer, songwriter, and storyteller who melodically portrays a vision of his own triumphs and struggles while alluding to the classic stories, sounds, and form of Blues, Soul, and Hip Hop.
Mike Maven and the Goodlife have a developing fan base in the Boston and New England area as well as in New York City, and are now regularly playing and packing venues such as The Middle East, Bills Bar, Harpers Ferry, and Felt in Boston. This powerhouse performing ensemble can rock for families and music fans alike and explode with show-stopping originals and covers of Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Ne-Yo, Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z, A Tribe Called Quest, Usher, and more.
Raised in a traditional Italian-American family, Mike was exposed to a belief that culture and family are lifes most important values. With a mother who was a child of the seventies, and a supporter of the civil rights movement, Mike was also raised to idolize leaders like Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr., and his mother taught him to think of life spiritually rather than materialistically. All of this has played a role in Mikes music as he has moved through several well noted New England bands, then going off on his own and forming what is now Mike Maven and the Goodlife.
What is the Goodlife, and where did the name come from? The goodlife began as a philosophy which described the music that Mike and the band create: music that celebrates both lifes joys and sadness, which glorify community and acceptance, and beg others to join in celebrating the goodlife.
The good life is the middle way
Between ambition and compassion
Between action and reflection
Between company and solitude
Between hedonism and abstinence
Between passion and judgement
Between the cup of coffee and the glass of wine

“Here is a slow jam of epic proportions, a perfect lull in this album's upbeat intensity and full of passion.”

“This tune is the most passionate that I wrote for this record... actually not a love song, but about a former music partner who couldn't appreciate Miles Davis and John Coltrane (which made me very upset, naturally). Was recorded live with the guitar and bass in my bedroom and drums in the kitchen in a tiny apartment in Boston.”

“This song features a tight beat and myself and Wildabeast pouring it all out with a catchy hook to bring the whole thing together. Produced by Mike Maven and Sixth Sense.”

“Jerry Goldsmith's score to this classic film is wonderful. He is one of the top American composers for films, his work always top notch.”
