“This whole album is an interesting concept - the same song renders in a number of different styles. The vocal line is catchy, and of the several version, the contrast between acoustic guitar and light background synth feels well realized. But get the whole album. It's just fun.”

Track: In the Bleak Midwinter

Album: A Midnight Clear
Artist: Steve Schenkel and Ashley Mason
“This is the sort of sang best kept simple and clean - yet so many singers want to over stylize it. Ashley strikes a great balance between making it her own and honoring the beauty of the traditional arrangements.”

“Tired of the same old holiday fare? Well here's a new piece, and a good one at that. Upbeat and well played. Had me bouncing around the living room.”

“This song is awesome! I am a big fan of jazz and this is some of my favorite kind of jazz (besides Louis
Armstrong). This is a nice little sort of fast and sort of slow. I also like the tittle.
P.S. This whole album rocks!!!!!!!!!!”

“A nice easy-going jaunt. Song is well produced and features a lot of Bryan's guitar -- this track is cleaner and simpler than many of the other tracks on the album and I think has a special appeal for that reason. Reminds me a little of George Benson/Earl Klugh "Collaboration" -- overall, this album might be just as good. ”

“This song has a great beat.It gives me an idea of the future because of the can being hit.It sounds like metal being hit in a funky way.”

“Just a simple acoustic guitar here. But driving and powerful. One of the standout tracks on this standout album.”

Album: Alexandria, Falling
Artist: Julean and the Rai
“This is a great album! A lot of solid acoustic guitar work here, and a great world feel. There's a usenet posting that describes him as "Richie Havens meets Peter Gabriel, with a little spanish and gypsy thrown in" -- seems pretty on target.
This whole album really blew me away, but maybe this first track is the best. It's energetic, and has a eastern/middle eastern flavor I really like. Check it out, it's worth a spin.”

“Possibly the richest and most emotional of the 3 pieces on the album that are strictly gamelan ("Small of My Back" and "Gending Erhu" feature flute and erhu respctively). Thoroughly enjoyable, building in depth and complexity throughout. ”

“The gamelan here is a nicely balamced with an erhu on this piece. The erhu adds a plaintive, emotional, side to the music that really makes the peice shine. A powerful piece for fans of gamelan, and a great introduction for people less familiar with the genre.”

“tune has an authentic celtic feel and is another great showcase for Dempsey's powerful vocals, taking on powerful issues. a moving piece I can listen to over and over again.”

“I love the transition from a celtic folk style to a grungy electric sound. Dempsey has great vocal range and control, and delvers a real emotional punch with this one.”

Track: It's All Over Now, Baby Blue

Album: What Have You Gone And Done
Artist: Acoustic Project
“This is just a flat out nice interpretation of a Dylan classic. Nice piano work to hold it all together, solid rhythm keeps it rolling along. Acoustic Project deserves a good listen, and this tune is an example why.”

“MJQ in fine form. Like much of their work, this tune is easy to listen to. This piece has a little extra something - a direction and harmonic tension that makes it one of my favorite MJQ works.”

“More raw than some of the other pieces on the album. Guitar riffs wail a little more, bass line has a nice rumble and there's some interesting dissonance in the sax work.”

“Driving rhythms and totally solid piano chops. Nice hard/post bop feel features an easily approachable melodic and harmonic structure with enough complexity to keep you coming back for more.”
