T-ka

What is really striking when you first listen to T-ka is her soulful & sensual voice which navigates easily between low intonations of a Nina Simone and the cristal heights of a Beth Gibbons (Portishead). This unique soul voice is mixed with pop compositions. <p>Pop being a shortcut for mix of influences... Like her idol Prince, she doesn't let herself bury in a style and pays tribute to soul & Maxwell on her song Muszic, explores hip-hop rhythms on Terror, a song about 9/11 and bossa on Dolores, celebrates trip-hop on Attraction to Death and He always knows and let pop flow on Flyin’ or On The Other Side of the Ocean (O.T.O.S.O.T.O.) which gives its name to the coming album. <p>As she is about to perform for the first time in 2000, she chooses her name T-ka out of the Indian Tikka she wears on her forehead that night. <p>T-ka is a singer songwriter based in Paris. She plays everywhere she travels: in Lille (France) and Seoul (Korea), in New-York, on the Elysee-Montmartre stage with Cody Chesnutt. One of the biggest booking agency in France, Alias, surprised by the quality of her demo programs her as opening act of Maceo Parker on November 1st, 2004. One month later, she wins the Tremplin Ile de France in Paris, a musical contest, and is asked to play at the Solidays in July 2005. <p>In between, T-ka writes and interprets 4 songs of Bikini Rumble's album "Almost Hydrofoiling" (Montera Records/La Baleine) released on October, 26th 2005. <p>The year 2006 has been dedicated to the recording of her album.
