Killer Lamb

Killer Lamb, encompasses the meaning of adversity. Born in Louisiana to the shores of Cape Cod, Ma., growing up the only black person in her family left her feeling the “ugly duckling.” While spending the school year in Long Beach, Ca. she found herself coming out of her shell. Along with participating in many school activities, she began to take in interest in the plights of her community. “Struggles are universal. I know what it means to struggle even though I wasn’t exposed to the black community until my early twenties.” Her retreats to the shores of Cape Cod saved her from becoming completely engulfed in the streets. “Many kids stay in the trenches of the city through out their summer and I was lucky to get out. It was a buffer that allowed me to be well balanced.” During her first year of college she began to develop her passion for environmental causes and the troubles of a community she had never known. “I believe because of that I had more of a desire to see black people achieve greatness.” It is then at the age of 19, that she became a songwriter/lyricist and is continuously refining her skill. When studying geology at the University of New Orleans she came to realization of her true identity which closely ties in with her music. Inspired by street performers in New Orleans, she took on the persona of the Killer Lamb, painted and with the markings of a lamb. While pursuing a career as a petroleum geologist she made attempts to get her music produced. In more ways then one has such an industry rubbed off on her. “ Even though relatives of mine own an independent oil company, I go through the revolving door where I make my own connections first and come back around to them. It’s been an overwhelming challenge, but I’m not going to give up one pursuit for the other. Believe me, if I had some other talent I’d be glad to pursue that rather then going up against these two industries. In the oil industry they say it’s about luck, this holds true to the music business as well. Most people don’t see the correlation between the two industries yet when they hear my music they are intrigued. I feel it is my right inherent by nature to unearth these truths.” With no solid contacts she discontinued her pursuits throwing away all her song sheets, demos, and joined the military. “ They say if you love something let it go, that’s what I did. When people speak of going against the grain, that’s exactly what I did in joining the military.” As a soldier, sergeants often gave her a troublesome time, despite that she still followed through with ease. Sacrificing all she held dear, leaving her newborn son, while on a year long tour in Korea, she had overwhelming feelings of being “trapped” in formation. After her enlistment, she once again decided to pursue her following. “I don’t advise it for everyone, though if you love somethin’ let it go holds true and it surely did come back to me with my most powerful lyrics and such arising later on.” She is no longer the ugly duckling, rather the swan that flows elegantly.
