“Awesome music! From the blues purist himself!! Thanks Sir J.Mclaughlin! :)”
“He plays the hell out of his guitar on this song, plucking the strings like crazy. But it's sensual at the same time.”
“In 1971, this first major label outing for Mashaguru John McLaughlin’s more orthodox and devotional sides, has the two part Peace stepping towards the Indian influence, followed by a post bop set with similarities to Herbie Hancock’s late-60’s recordings, and also seeming to presage a core part of the ‘ECM sound’. It appears to be Dave Liebman’s album, though there’s loads of classy guitar. It’s edited as a segue, so buy the lot and set your player / burner to omit the lead-ins.
As the 3rd track, the Mingus classic moves the music into the prevailing post-bop mould. Unlike the Renbourn/Jansch version that would have been familiar to McLaughlin, and subsequent versions by almost every other guitar star, this is more about the arrangement, and the tune is less immediate.”
