Play Button All Along the Watchtower

by Paul Zunno

on Solo Acoustic

in Rock, Acoustic, Roots

It's an extraordinary trick to pull off covers of songs that are as well known as "All Along the Watchtower," and most specifically in this case when another cover version (Jimi Hendrix) is better known than the original (Bob Dylan.) The song has been covered extensively by many other more famous artists (including Pearl Jam, John Mellencamp, & the Indigo Girls) but this rendition ranks as my personal favorite. Mr. Zunno finds a wonderfully unique folk/blues-jazz angle into the song that other cover versions somehow miss. His fantastic ear for the heart of the song's lyrics and the hooks overrides my impression of the musicianship involved in this cover... yet nevertheless his technical skills should not go without mention. His softly gravelly voice is used to excellent effect, and I simply cannot say enough about his guitar playing. In short, it's a beautifully accomplished cover.
