“This is a really good album. Don't be misled by the "We" because 'they' are a one-man-band, somehow producing this wonderful sound and fantastic harmonies - now, if there were two of them . . . . . ”

“In what might be a subtle update of "It's My Party" (and I'll Cry If I Want To), the singular bedroom rocker with the plural name We Were Pirates sings sweetly to a slow indie rock beat, exhorting party-goers: "Everybody in this whole damn place get on the floor / 'cause we're not leaving 'til everybody gets down." So why don't we believe him when he says everyone's having a great time at this party? The emotional tone is flat and sad, a cousin to the ironic tone adopted by The Bloodhound Gang when they mumbled Parliament-Funkadelic lyrics. There's snacks and drinks and games... so why don't We Were Pirates sound like they're having fun?”

“From the intro guitar line, to the hand claps and into the first verse, this bittersweet slice of pop is guaranteed to make your day.”

“Nice background beats. Relaxing music, and a voice that just makes you want to listen. The lyrics are simple, yet intricate. Good for occasional listeners, but be warned, you may get hooked!”

“This song is one of those great painful ballads. It's a thoughtful look at the collector type of lover - not the person who wants you for you, but another notch on her lipstick case. Touches on unrequited love and is nicely and remarkably mellow for the subject matter.”

“The story on This American Life about the birth of this song was a great highlight. It's good to find that a band recorded at more fleshed-out version of it.”
