About Say the Word
Via Satellite are a 4 piece North London based band who play uptempo, soulful and wonderfully melodic indie rock with choruses and hooks that keep your toes tapping and ass shaking for days. They formed in late 2005 and have been working their way up the jungle and safari like monster that is the London gig circuit. The boys toured the East Coast of the U.S of A in October 2006 and are set to release their debut album in June 2007. Their melodic musings fall somewhere between Razorlight, Nada Surf, Guster, Crowded House and Oasis. Most punters leave their gigs with a skip in their step and a big ol smile on their face.Pete Duddles is the song writer of the band and writes uptempo poppish songs that sound rather rock & roll with a liberal dose of electric guitar and distortion thrown into the mix. Chris Griffith on guitar is the newest addition to the Via Satellite family and since his stomping arrival has added a rocking new dynamic to the Satellite sound. AC is the bass man and via his Thunderbird provides the pulsating and melodic rumble. Dan Awbery is the skins boy and would make Dave Grohol proud with the intensity of his playing. Via Satellite's debut album will be released on DC Baby! Records in June.
Praise for 'Say the Word':
'There's lots to praise on Via Satellite's debut album. The punk-pop choruses are bright and bouncy, especially 'Balancing Act' courtesy of a marvellous twist in the time signature and a genuinely catchy melody. The rhythms change and build regularly and the energy rarely lets up over the eleven tracks.'Give Me A Chance' deserves a particular mention for taking the hook line from Electric Six's 'Danger! High Voltage' and meshing it with verses from George Michael's 'Faith'. At least that's what it sounds like. Meanwhile 'Sorry' is a stadium-sized anthem with a big chorus and neat guitar work throughout. The token cover, Split Enz's 'I Got You', is faithful to the original and, for such a great song, blends well with the rest which is a good sign for Pete Duddles' songwriting.'
