On Theo’s debut EP, Soundsystem, he’s set out to do one thing: define himself. Or at least try. As a product of a racially and culturally mixed family, this has perhaps been one of his biggest challenges. For all of his 22 years, Theo has been walking a fine line between cultures and races, trying to find balance in a world that all too often encourages division. “My father’s Jamaican and my mother’s American, so I guess you could say I’m a mixture: two races, two cultures…” Though this mixture has at times brought resistance and pain, Theo considers it a blessing to be who he is, “I try to be a bridge… to seek unity.”

With Soundsystem, Theo has found this unity by fusing hip-hop, soul, and acoustic music with a fierce reggae root. Drawing from influences as diverse as Bob Marley, Damian Marley, Wyclef, and Ben Harper, Theo has forged his own unique sound to express his lyrics of love, social consciousness, peace, and togetherness. Having already toured regionally in the United States, Theo plans to continue spreading his message of unity at clubs, festivals, coffee houses, and college campuses all across the nation.
