About Not Gonna Shut Up

What can be said about this legendary Gospel Group that has not already been written? They have traveled around the world, performed for Presidents and Kings, have recorded albums too numerous to name. They have been emulated and imitated but have never been duplicated.

The Original 5 Blind Boys of Mississippi are: Sandy Foster, Joe Watson, Charles Montaque, Jesse Brown, Curtis Foster and Robert Lewis with Willie Glover and John Whaley as musicians. Jesse Brown has been with the group since 1937 and Curtis Foster was originally with the Blind Boys of Alabama before joining the current group.

The group started in the year 1937 as a way for the original members to pay their tuition at the Piney Woods School for the Blind. They eventually began singing outside of the school as the Jackson Harmoneers. A gospel promoter (Ronnie Williams of Newark, NJ) dubbed them the five Blind Boys on a concert bill and the name stuck.

The group has since been inducted into the Black Gosple Hall of Fame and has spread their unique brand of harmonies throughout the United States, Europe and the Netherlands. They have performed at SRO concerts at the famed Apollo Theater in New York, at Carnegie Hall and at the Old Regal Theater in Chicago.

Their Music is "universal and down to earth", according to Germany's Concert Buro.

The 5 Blind Boys of Mississipp have recorded for several record labels in their long career span and recently signed an exclusive recording conract with Melendo Records. "Not Gonna Shut Up" (MEL-2289) is their 35th career album. Which is also available on DVD (MEL-2289VD) and includes a mini movie of the hit song, "It Could have been me".
