About The Storm

You’ll hear it before you see it, a rumbling off in the distance indicating some sort of impending change. It’s the rhythm of the drums behind a complex curtain woven by acoustic instruments, and it inspires a sense of tradition yet is mixed with so many new ideas. This is folk music of the new millennium, and it’s not for the meek or faint of heart. The six tracks on the EP showcase a range of songwriting and arrangement styles while establishing a cohesive New Familiar sound that manages to cross multiple genres; from rock, to country, to blues, to folk and beyond.

From the foothills of North Carolina a new musical combo has appeared, grown from seeds of the folk, blues, and bluegrass found abundant in their homelands and nurtured by the phenomenal breadth of genres and styles that have bloomed and withered over the last 50 years in American music. Known as The New Familiars, these gentlemen combine an amazing passion for harmony with multi-instrumental talent and an uncanny ability for storytelling. Writing folk music from the core - of the people, by the people, and for the people - while incorporating the multitudes of influences that each of the members bring to the table, this band is a powerful swell in a new wave of honest roots-derived rock n’ roll that is sweeping the nation in the wake of a very tumultuous time in our history.
