About 21st. Century S.O.B.

Last night I was drinking myself into oblivion, it's gotten to the point where I'll sleep with anyone..."
Word on the street is that the Erotics are actually as sleazy as they sound. Don't know if it's true, but I'm going to keep Smutstrutter away from them anyway. '21st Century SOB', to be succinct, is an absolute motherfucker. The problem with even the cream of the contemporary sleaze rock crop- Trashcan Darlings, American Heartbreak, The Revolvers, is that you can just tell- they might fuck you blind and drink your last slug of whiskey, but they're not going to stab you in the eyes and steal your wallet. But the Erotics? They just don't care, they've got no time for apologies, and they love to see you bleed. In other words, they mean it, man. Evidence abounds in the cleverly named Uzi's Johnny Thunders- bred and Slash- fed guitar. You just can't sound that filthy without doing damage to your soul, never mind your liver. He battles it out with lead creep Mike Trash in nasty -ass riff wars that rob freely and without shame from every raunch and roll band that ever played it like they had no other choice- Guns n' Roses, Hanoi Rocks, New York Dolls, Sex Pistols, Motley Crue, Motorcycle Boy-Hell, I'll even bet they've got the gumption to steal a few licks from the Comatones. I'm not even saying that the Erotics are derivative, because even when they're covering the Crue on this record, they still sound like a snarly new beast. I'm just saying they're not afraid to take what they want, and throw away the rest. Trash's vox are the pearl in this trough of glitter swine, though. He's a raspy punk that sounds like he's been lying all his life, like he's been in his mother's purse once or twice, and every song is a declaration of his propensity for betrayal and treachery. Just look at his twisted version of romance in 'I Wanna Be Your Bastard'- "I'm never gonna leave you alone, I wanna get on your nerves/ Gonna harass you on the telephone, that's what you deserve/Gonna violate all of your bones, you'll never get away/You'll be kneeling at my throne, each and every day." No wonder they like to keep moving, the restraining orders must be piling up. I've played this record so many times in the past month that I know every filthy word. Fans of truly bad fun, jump on this terror train and hold on for an action packed ride. The Erotics are Rock with it's heart ripped out.
