Can't Get Out Of Bed - Review

Heralding both the band's return to the fray after Between 10th and 11th, and its artistic shift towards using the Rolling Stones as definite role models, Can't Get Out of Bed provided a good preview of Up to Our Hips. The title track's steady-as-she-goes invocation of early-'70s Mick and Keith and the lads works well, though admittedly, Burgess has nothing like the truly sharp tongue of Jagger when it comes to singing. Still, it has that same relaxed but righteous rock vibe going for it, cast in the band's own Hammond organ-laden style. The short instrumental "Out" sounds more like a pre-show warm-up than a song, but lets both Collins members show off a bit over Blunt and Brookes' low rhythms. "Withdrawn" is mostly there than anything else, though it has a pretty chorus and some attractive guitar work from Mark Collins to recommend it. ~ Ned Raggett, All Music Guide
