“A real treat! This was another single from the incredible Some Friendly...if you love their dancey, early stuff this might just spin you right off into heaven... :)”

“Somehwat hard-to-come-by FULL US VERSION (the 'best of' collection still has an edit of this version), which is one of the band's best-loved (and best) songs.”

“'Thank You' is a perfect album closer. It seems completely honest, as if the band were truly thanking their fans for indulging them in taking a bit of a left-turn with this album. It's also one of the most psychedelic things they've ever recorded--definitely one for the headphones, and the bass line IS 'Block Rockin' Beats' by Chemical Brothers, which was still 2 years away....”

“Not a song often mentioned when discussing The Charlatans, though I don't know why. This is another one that could be a lynchpin to answering the question 'How did Oasis manage to grab their 15 minutes of fame?'--by listening to gobs and gobs of Charlatans records but only referencing The Beatles in the press.”

“Q: What if Neil Young & Crazy Horse were a British band?
A: 'No Fiction'
(Disclaimer: I mean this in the most positive possible way, seriously!!!)”

“'Toothache' is best known in its Chemical Brothers remix form, but the original, somewhat stripped-down version, is great in its own right. The guitars are heavy in that psychedelic, late-period Hendrix way, and that backbeat--complete with a funked-up bass line and dancing organ swells--is OUT OF SIGHT. Dazzling guitar solo, too.”

“'Tell Everyone' is essentially a Beatlesesque ballad, but the organ swells and Allmansesque outro guitar solo help shape it into an original beast all its own.”

“The guitars/organ/percussion (shakers 'n' all!) backdrop and lush vocalization calls to mind early-70s California post-folkies like the Mamas And Papas and The Byrds, but Burgess' Britishness keeps this in the realm of experimental Britpop. Listen for the fantastic Bee Gees inspired bass line and the too-short (but extremely well-placed) guitar solos.”

“A slowed-down, somewhat stripped-down track that brings to mind Gram Parsons/Allman Brothers-style Southern rock (dig that straight-outta-church organ!) but retains a distinctly British sensibility throughout. An eclectic mix that would fall flat in attempted by lessor artists, but shines here.”

“This is a kind-of funky, very dancy, extremely psychedelic track that probably shouldn't work half as well as it does at times. The chorus ('hooked on the way you walk, hooked on the way you talk') might be the best Lennon/McCartney snippet that those 2 legends can't actually take credit for.”
