Album: Hospice

“Fantastically diverse, intense and laden with life... this is music you won't want to miss. Navel-gazing, but in a well-executed and sophisticated way that most bands couldn't touch. In one reviewer's words: "Hospice is at once the simplest and most immense album of the year." ”

“Nice pop feel. Vocals are great, and really builds up nicely to the chorus. Horns near the end are a nice touch, probably the best song on the album.”

“Sometimes at night I close my eyes and imagine what the world would be like if Jeff Buckley were still here, and I imagine him singing me lullabies while I drift to sleep. That's sort of what this song is. ”

“There are other genres that I prefer over the style of this album but I have to say I think this is the best album of 2009. On the surface it is a beautiful thing to listen to while going about your day. But if you want to do do it justice go to a room where you can be alone and undisturbed. Turn the lights down, put headphones/ear buds on, hit play and close your eyes. The album is a concept album with a theme and story developing over the course of the songs. With an album title like Hospice you can guess this is a dark journey. It probes love, death and the bottomless ache of loss that can't be undone. It does so without cliche. The lyrics are stripped bare, exposed and raw. The album wouldn't be listenable if it wasn't so damn beautiful. Ultimately, Hospice reminds me how beautiful and delicate life is. Really taste every bite of food, watch birds play in the sky, stop the car and watch the sun rise, close your eyes and listen to Hospice.”
