Strayplay

Strayplay was founded at the end of 2007 by Mark Schellhas and Devin Jones.

Strayplay combines the organic sounds of the spanish/electric guitars and live drumming together with the electronic power and clarity of modern music production.

Strayplay brings to the foreground a live set of big beat dance tunes and an essentially exciting live show.

MARK’S STORY…
Mark Schellhas is a dynamic songwriter: his music spanning live electronica, dance, theatrical rock and intimate acoustic guitar music. He started writing music from an early age, as he couldn’t read music and learning covers wasn’t a very interesting prospect in any case.

Mark’s interest in music never ceased growing and by the age of 14, Mark was already producing, presenting and engineering his own radio show on the largest community radio station in the Western Cape (South Africa).

After high school, Mark spent two years in Europe where he travelled a little, worked a little and played in a touring Brit Rock band from Liverpool, where he lived from 2002 until mid-2003.

On his return to South Africa in 2003, Mark founded and performed with popular fusion music group “Verismo” in Cape Town (2003-2007), dabbled in live electronica with his break-beat band “The Black Jaguar” in 2006, released a solo acoustic EP in 2007 and has now returned to the exciting world of the live electronic dance music arena, with Strayplay.

DEVIN’S STORY…
Devin Jones was surrounded by music from an early age and began playing the drums around the time he
was 10 years old, playing professionally at the age of 13. He was the drummer for Verismo and has also
played for side projects, Hot Water, Jazz etc, Spratch, and the Natalie Chapman Band. Last year Devin
achieved his bachelor of music in jazz performance on the Drumset.

In 1997, Devin joined his first band and in 1999 he co‐created his first project, “Day Old Toast”, with whom he recorded two demos. Then in late 2003 his second project, “Spratch” evolved, releasing his first full‐length album and music video. His career took off when he joined African folk‐rock band, “Hot Water” in 2005.

Devin is known for his energetic and creative playing. Having established himself as a versatile drummer,
producing and playing musical projects in different genres including punk rock, rock, pop, ska, folk and
even electronica. He is also touring with local act “Captain Stu”.
