Ry Moran

It's more than Rock and Roll...

Ry Moran is singer-songwriter from Victoria, British Columbia.

His most recent CD, entitled Groundwater, was recently nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award. Right Time, the first single from the album, has climbed to number 17 on
the National Aboriginal Countdown and continues to climb. Groundwater also sat at number 7 on the charts at the University of Waterloo in Ontario in the month of September...one ahead of Cake.

His music has been described by many as moving, heartfelt and genuine. Ry was especially honored to hear that British Columbia's representative for the Queen, the Lieutenant Governor, stated Ry "has a beautiful soul. Groundwater is...a new stream of environmentally supportive music."

Much of the music on Grounwater alludes to our current relationship with the environment, and songs such such as Humanity, Right Time, Feel You Here all speak directly to it.

In 2005, Ry was awarded the Pierre Falcon Award for Artistic Achievement. This national award recognized Ryan’s abilities both as a musician and as a Role Model for aboriginal
youth. This led to him being a featured performer as at National Aboriginal Day celebrations in Ottawa.

Ry is also an active composer, videographer and director and his work has been broadcast nationally.

In 2006, Ry wrote and directed an important video on language recording techniques for aboriginal language revitalization efforts. This video and his methods are now in use by
over twenty bands across the Country, vastly improving the quality of aboriginal language documentation efforts.
