About Young Lungs

Born and raised around a record player in Cookeville, Tennessee by the long arm of Music City’s local legends, Kent, Blake & Jonathan might as well have been brothers. Having played in bands together since the age of sixteen, the boys have shared three east coast tours and several self-released albums, quickly growing too great in both spirit and ambition for their humble hometown fences. After relocating to Murfreesboro, with Nashville near enough to hear the chords come crashing over the expressway, things began to quickly take shape in the form of Ribbonpigeon..
The arrival of Mike Burgess in the fall of 2006 led Ribbonpigeon to self-release the Hymns/Hers EP, a six-song collection with horn and piano arrangements by Mikey Allred. Not long after the collection’s completion, Allred went his way and was replaced by Rebecca Ryan on fiddle and piano. Before leaving for tour in August of 2007, the band would write the bulk of Young Lungs in a week’s time. And here we are. After a winter of rehearsing, recording, and running around the southeast in an effort to play their songs for anyone willing enough to shake their hands, the Pigeons arrived at something that was not only special, but also well earned.
Young Lungs is a lovely little handful of haunting tales, trading stories of loss and lucidity from the roadside taverns of Tennessee to the top of the Great Smokies. Kent Goolsby and the gang have cooked up a batch of the most charming and rewarding alt-country efforts of the year, and Chicago, Illinois’ Sophomore Lounge Records was more than happy to have ‘em hop aboard for the record’s release.
With tracks ranging from the likes of "Devil Wind"'s subtle and bare-boned, acoustic glow to the more fully arranged, americana instrumentation of the album's opener, "Modern Men," the offering itself is proof alone that the youngsters these days are, in fact, doing something worth-while with their time and talents.

“Nice fiddle on this track. This band is now known as the Only Sons, definitely worth watching.”
