“So, I was blasting this tune, drivin' through the mean streets of LA, laughing at some funny lines, and feeling like I was in a VW commercial (even though I drive a subaru...) when I realized everyone around me was laughing at me. At first I was offended - ‘what’s so funny!’ but then noticed them bouncing along with this lounge-y pop track. They covet my tunes! It’s Over Now is THE song you need to bounce through rush hour. ”

“Perhaps the languid progenitor of Luminescence, and maybe Bust too, but it's own other planet of "it's a drag". There are friends who complain about certain "morose music" on my iPod, but I'm learning to put these precious gems in a playlist all their own, and enjoy them in those quiet moments when they fit a mood that no other song can speak to. And, besides, when a songwriter puts together a couplet like: "When the wall is broken / Another victim of your tired, petty rage / And you feel like such a transparent asshole / Explaining to your super how it got that way" you know you can listen to it over and over again and understand where we've all been every single time.”

“Deliciously deep lyrics cosseted by a wonderfully harmonized, pop memorable refrain. The guitar interludes are delicious, and the phrases indelible. "No words pass in the hall / A picture tells a thousand tales / None of them are kind / And most are true / A catalog of my crimes / Easier to recognize / When the sucker isn't you" By the time the Hammond arrives to take us home, we're swept right into the picture: "There are sirens on our street--How do you sleep so well?"”

“The Daphne Suite is a beautiful, haunting, humorous, melancholic... journey? Even though "the Mystery Machine's out of gas," this sweet little album will surely get you there and back. ”

“"The lovely Kim Nazarian appears courtesy of RCA/Victor", the truth of which I know because I became compelled to buy the physical CD after hearing this and the rest of the wonderful music here in this collection, and the attribution for the ethereal harmonies on this track was one of the most compelling reasons. The Will Holshouser accordian is a sweet touch, too. A great arrangement, and a great song.”

“The sublime pleasure of Apple's "Shuffle Play" has returned this one to the top of the playlist, and it's remarkable to have remained among my (let's face it, practically extinct these days) "not yet recommended" Populuxe list. "Everything's alright, everything's alright, when there isn't any light".”

“This one never fails to bring a smile. "I don't belong here". Here's my favorite line: "Envy growing fat with fear while your friends are dancing downtown, and downtown is a bust".”

“This is my favorite populuxe tune. Rock and roll with a touch of reggae and clever lyrics. Very smart tune.”

“For everyone who remembers Dark Side Of The Moon, but never how they got there, High tells the whole dark and dreamlike story. "Where Everything is Beautiful".”

“Perhaps the emotional and aural antithesis of Torque, (though born of the same essence), Luminescence is a disembodied float through the haze of "they do what they want to do".”
