Miles Cope was given the gift of song nearly three decades ago by the immeasurably talented pianist and friend the late Smith Dobson. Smith and his wife Gail were a truly delightful vocal and piano duo. Miles spent hours driving long distances to attend their performances and a mutual friendship led to Miles being honored as Godfather to their son. During one of these performances Smith called Miles up to the mic to sit in. Impressed with his ability, Smith and Gail encouraged Miles to recognize accept and develop a blessing he was totally unaware of. From that day forward he found his way to center stage and the joy of joining other musicians in the pursuit of musical fulfillment. Beginning with organ trios, Miles developed his love of standards and blues. After two decades playing clubs, casuals and concerts Miles worked with the remarkably innovative and spirited Bob Doscher Quartet. The years with the late Bob Doscher instilled in Miles a real love for jazz and composition.
Sasha Bossa and Face to Face With Love are the two offerings penned by Miles and Smith. I have been encouraging Miles for to do a CD for years because of his special and unique qualities. Finally the opportunity to work with such a group of fine musicians has made this dream a reality. It was a privilege to work with these extremely talented and personable musicians who seemed to share a unique camaraderie which is evident in the overall success of this project. I am sure you will enjoy listening to this CD as much as we've enjoyed creating it!
