About Matthew Campbell

Matthew Campbell began playing music in his early teens in Oakville, Ontario. His roots exist in both Musical Theatre as well as the Folk/Rock music scene. He attended Sheridan College graduating in 2002 from the Musical Theatre Performance Program. In his involvement with theatre he has been fortunate to work with The Charlottetown Festival, The Sunshine festival, Drayton Entertainment, and Stage West Mississaugua and Calgary, as a singer, actor, instrumentalist, dancer, and music director. He began playing live in College with the group Roadtrips, which was formed by Matthew and his long-time friend and playing partner Ben Birchard. In 2004 he formed the group Matthew Campbell and The Crooked Bay Road, which unfortunatly dissapated quickly as projects took the band members all over the country. As a musician he had the pleasure of attending Canadian Music Week in 2003, and at an after-party involving too much free beer, things lead to an impromptu jam session with Jeff Martin of the Tea Party, Derek Miller of the Derek Miller Band (2003 Juno winner), with Matthew on keyboards. A bootleg copy of the video was made, with Jeff singing several Zeppelin, Marley, and Doors classics, which was circulated through various channels. The tape led to Matthew being asked to join Derek Miller and his band in a tribute to Robbie Robertson (of the famed mostly-Canadian group The Band, as well as his work with Bob Dylan) for his induction into the Canadian Walk of Fame. This was held at Roy Thompson hall in 2003, and allowed Matthew the pleasure of sharing the stage and playing piano and clavichord with Sarah Harmer, Tom Cochrane and The Derek Miller Band. Since then Matthew has occassionally collaborated with Derek intermittently on various projects. This is his debut relaese, a collection of songs and stories he has been working on over the years. Matthew is currently in the process of trying to form a touring band, and begin playing to live to audiences in the Southern Ontario area.

Street Cred: 35 Rec's: 2
“This is an all-around excellent song. Mathew Campbell has a great, easy-to-listen-to voice; thankfully, the production quality on the track is professional. The lyrics are easy and not overwhelming. It's got a lively beat and stands up to repeat listening. You can't go wrong with this track.”
