About Lookdown Moon
THE HISTORY OF LOOKDOWN MOON: [from 2007 press release]Founded by Ann and Jason Loop, Lookdown Moon began in 1999 and was then called 'Mayfly'. Ann and Jason began performing locally (in the Duluth, Minnesota area) as an acoustic duo but would later play with a full band, while staying true to their original sound. Their music has been described as "skeletal, acoustic-based songs" with a lead singer that "defies comparison and destroys them with her smooth, soulful voice and with lyrics that jump from anger to loss to beauty". -Alan Sparhawk, Ripsaw News 2000
Their debut recording endeavor was their contribution to Spinout's 2000 compilation release "Duluth Does Dylan", receiving acclaim for their version of "It Ain't Me Babe" [www.spinoutrecords.com] Mayfly maintained a weekly gig at the Norshor Theatre and appeared on the local music scene at various venues around the northland. In 2002, Ann and Jason collaborated with various local musicians to release an album entitled "Twilight Fair: Many Faces" benefitting the Mental Health Association. By putting music to lyrics written by women in the Fresh Start Program (a Duluth residence which serves women who live with borderline personality disorder), Ann and Jason promoted the Twilight Fair project with the intent of bringing awareness to talent of persons with mental illness and to break the social stigma of mental illness. In 2004, Lookdown Moon released a 4-song self-titled EP, which they recorded at Duluth's own Sacred Heart Recording Studio. [www.sacredheartstudio.net]
With new songs in tow, Lookdown Moon headed into the studio in the spring of 2007. Working with Dave Hill at Inland Sea Recording studio in Superior, WI, [www.cranesong.com] Lookdown Moon laid down material for their debut Full-Length album to be released in October, 2007.
THE SOUND OF LOOKDOWN MOON: [from LM's Website]
Lookdown Moon isn't so much a band as they are a working experiment weaving sound with poetic lines and haunting stories. Founded by Ann and Jason Loop, they have been weaving melodies together at venues across the northeast and east coast for close to a decade. They have played with a variety of musicians and played for countless audiences at plenty of shows. They have also recorded songs here and there, but are now committing to break out in a style that defines itself...
Click on the listen tab and try your ears out on the sound. Does it remind you of a place? Something familiar and unfamiliar? Does it cast a shadow in your soul? Does it make you shiver, cry, laugh, sigh or tap your foot?
Lookdown Music is a sound that reaches the complexities inside life and sometimes death...Listen to the lines of the Lookdown Moon song "John Wayne"...Going blind on the day John Wayne died? Ever lose someone you loved and couldn't explain the grief? Does mystery really explain everything? Or should we take a bullet train to the stars? What if we land ourself into a hole where the grief won't end? Does the "Mighty old song with a lotta life" still resonate in your brain?
It's just a sample of sound weaved with haunting lines but the earthy wholesome rustic sound that can pierce your soul is the sound of "Lookdown Moon"...Take a hear...Welcome the light...

“Great gem of a group. Caramel is a great kick off song showing off the singer's wonderfully emotional voice. The album feels like rock with a hint of country. Keep listening to it again and again.”
