About River City Blues

River City Blues is another eclectic, yet focused offering from Texas-based singer/songwriter Kurt South. Cut mostly live in the studio, the album shows a road-tested band pulling out strong tunes and delivering them in an unpretentious, soulful, and heartfelt manner. Eight of the nine songs are South's own. "The Weather" is a Justin Jones-penned song South heard at a show in Nashville and vowed on the spot he would one day record. Three years later, the song seems right at home with the others, bouncing joyfully along and falling pleasingly on the ears while maintaining the sharp edge South is known for. Often times described as "country-rock" and "Texas Country", South would rather one listen and draw their own conclusion. "My material draws from many places, often ones that don't sound like me at all. I've never been completely comfortable being known strictly as a 'Texas' guy. I do live there and love it, but I also have lived in several different states whose local sounds have found their way into my songs," he says. "It's all the same anyway- good music. Where the people were from who made it is just geography. The songs actually come from individuals. I just want it sound like me."
