“If you are new to Shostakovich's string quartets, start here--a tremendously exciting movement filled with musical and rhythmic surprises including some thrilling pizzicato passages.”

“If writing poetry after Auschwitz is barbaric, what about composing a string quartet? The Chacony from Britten's second quartet is a musical response to the horror of the Nazi concentration camps. Sometimes programmed as a standalone piece, its solemn and stately 20 minutes offer a good introduction to the rest of this darkly beautiful work. The playing is impeccable; so is the sound quality.”

“An amazing recording!--especially at Amie St. prices. This track is representative, capturing the weird & wonderful rhythms and harmonies of this terrific, challenging music, as well as demonstrating this young quartet's tremendous technique and musicality. The recorded sound is fantastic, too.”
