About Stop Looking Like Music

Hey Ocean! is a young Vancouver band with an infectious musical style and onstage charisma that continually captures the hearts of their ever-growing audience. Fresh off the release of their first full-length album, Stop Looking Like Music (2006), the band is spreading their feel good grooves across the country garnering critical acclaim from a wide variety of listeners – both young and old.

While musical chemistry and talent are evident on their new release, the band's live performance is where they truly shine. Regularly playing club shows to as many as 600 fans, their unique style and charisma energizes entire rooms and has concertgoers up and dancing within moments.

The beautiful melodies, rich harmonies and clever lyrics of singer/songwriter David Beckingham and songstress Ashleigh Ball are both whimsical and thought provoking. The duo, who have had a long-standing musical relationship are joined and expertly supported by the wildly energetic David Vertesi on bass and the creative powerhouse Benny Schuetze on drums.

This young foursome takes inspiration from every corner of pop music - combining folk, reggae, funk and jazz into a sound that is uniquely their own. Hey Ocean!'s music also borrows from several world music genres; largely because of Beckingham's three years in Kenya as well as other members' travels in Central America, Asia and Europe. Passionate voices, pensive words and contagious fun keep this music honest and pure; from the heart, for the soul.

Continuously leaving fans in awe, Hey Ocean! combines sheer talent, charismatic songs, and an undeniably energetic live show, making them a "must see" band for 2007.
