Our take
"With the album that made "Cars" a pop-culture phenomenon, Gary Numan cemented his role as the king of synth-pop years before his time. "– Amie Street Editors

“This song is not disco, it is a new wave song with and excellent beat. His lyrics are hypnotizing”

“In the late 70's, as arena rock and disco were gasping for breath, New Wave came to life. "Cars" is the poster child of New Wave music. A top 40 dance hit that sounds like it was sung by an android, "Cars" will take you back to the beginning of what would become (musically) the 80's.”

“A great 80s song. Although the Fear Factory cover had a great bite, the original still stands on it's own as an awesome single.”

“Awesome 80's synths, gary numan tearing people apart in his antisocial brilliant way, the song is just cool as hell. Download it.”

“This is a classic. I've always thought of this as a "big eighties" song, but it looks like the song was originally released in 1979. I guess it's because I first saw the video on MTV in the eighties -- back when MTV actually lived up to its name and played music videos.”
