About Punctuate the Calamities
The music of Death to Anders is of two worlds. Its indie folk-inspired song craft evokes a place austerely beautiful, almost pastoral, while its jagged, surprising arrangements reflect one entirely more sinister, one full of concrete, noise, and of dreams dashed against an underpass. In this duality, the music of Death to Anders is in perfect harmony with Los Angeles, the city from which it sprang forth.Originally formed at the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, the two founding members (guitarists Rob Danson and Nicholas Ceglio) began crafting the foundation of what would become their sound. Ceglio's indie-folk sensibility and Danson's taste for the ragged edge created a surprising mix of pop and intricately arranged noise. They then met New York Anti-Folk Journeyman, A.G., who brought a unique free-form sensibility for arrangement into the mix. Upon completion of their debut, full-length album, Punctuate the Calamities, AG left the band to finish school, and things came to a temporary stand-still. Shortly after, the band came upon bassist Peter DiBiasio. DiBiasio had played in the local LA indie-pop band Crooner who's members Nikki Monninger, and Christopher Guanlao are members of The Silversun Pickups. Toward the end of 2005, Death to Anders celebrated the release of Punctuate with a two-week tour of the Northwest, as well as a renewed presence in Los Angeles. Thanks to their intense, charged performances, the band's shows at venues like The Cocaine, the Silverlake Lounge and the Good Hurt have been increasingly well attended. Excitement has built on excitement, and the band's buzz has gathered intensity.
Death to Anders is approaching the coming year as a year to build on its successes. Along with LA cohorts the Happy Hollows, One Trick Pony, The Transmissions, Die Rockers Die, and Anchors For Architects, Death to Anders has formed The Central Second, a collective whose goal is to bring vitality, originality, and most of all hope, back to LA's music scene.
