Collegium Cantorum

Collegium Cantorum is the chamber choir of Uppsala Cathedral and has approximately 40 members. The choir was founded in 1983 by singers in the motet choir Schola Cantorum. The idea was to create a choir for more advanced singers who wanted to further develop their musical skills.
Apart from participating in services and other sacred events in Uppsala Cathedral, Collegium Cantorum also gives numerous concerts with a wide repertoire from the renaissance to modern classical works.
Through numerous international tours, Collegium Cantorum has become well renowned abroad. In 1993, Collegium Cantorum and Schola Cantorum were the first foreign choirs to be let into Vietnam since the Indochina war. The tour received a lot of attention throughout Vietnam.
The first conductor of the choir was the former cathedral organist Lars Angerdal. Today the choir is led by the present cathedral organist Olle Johansson. Olle Johansson has been the cathedral organist of Uppsala Cathedral since 2002. Just about having finished his technology studies he made the decision to change course and follow his passion and studied to become an organist at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. Among his teachers was the world-known Swedish choir Master Eric Ericson.
From 1978 to 2002 Olle Johansson was an organist and a choir conductor at the Engelbrekt Church in Stockholm. He was also a teacher at the Royal College of Music. After singing himself for many years in Eric Ericson�s choirs, he has retained an avid interest in choral music and in particular the art of conducting choral ensembles.
Collegium Cantorum has a broad repertoire stretching from choral symphonic polyphony to contemporary Nordic composers. At least once a year we perform one of the larger sacred works with soloists and an orchestra. In addition to participating in services the choir gives around five concerts a year.
