Chad Farran

"The Godfather goes to Jamaica" is how the San Diego Reader described the first track off Chad Farran's new CD release, Another Ride. Its thick landscape of Latin percussion under the pop melodies and smooth vocals make this CD stand out as a truly original piece of work among the other current acoustic releases. Farran has made a name in the San Diego music scene by playing hundreds of shows with many local bands throughout the region, producing music for TV shows and independent films, and recording CD projects for San Diego musicians. Over the past 3 years he has been involved in the production of music for the popular surf/travel show On Surfari that airs on FOX network�s Fuel TV, and has managed to capture the essence of foreign countries that the show travels to by studying the traditions and instruments from each place, incorporating them into musical pieces, and creating a
contemporary and refreshing soundtrack. In 2006 Farran set out to release a CD from the original compositions he had written as a singer/songwriter. Another Ride uses the same techniques as his soundtrack work to fuse Latin sounds and rhythms with the acoustic pop melodies that were inspired by influential recording artists both in the U.S. and abroad. His interest in Brazilian culture makes an impressive influence on Another Ride, as he weaves stories of love and love lost with the rhythms that enchanted him on his travels throughout that country. The Brazilian styles of Samba, Bossa Nova, Reggae, Forro, and Maracatu can all be heard in his songs, as he showcases his talents on the instruments he collected and brought back. The live performances captivate audiences with the brilliant musicianship of his band mates playing a multitude of instruments, and the lyrical content sung in both English and Portuguese. Chad now begins the task of opening the minds of the music lover and enticing them with the infectious rhythms and melodies he has captured so well on his new CD.
