CERUMENTRIC

CERUMENTRIC is a synth-rock/electro-pop/post-punk band consisting of only one member, multi-instrumentalist/zine writer/comix artist/songwriter Erick A. Fabian. CERUMENTRIC was conceptualized in September 2006 by Erick after deciding to end his former folk-pop outfit Lewis*Staples, which was also a time when he temporarily lost hearing in his left ear due to tinnitus. Erick has been dabbling with synthesizers, keyboard instruments, toy pianos and drum samples since 1995, using a friend’s Fostex 4-Track tape machine to record several songs under different monikers. While he uses staple electronic musical instruments and production methods to create the band’s sugary melodies, catchy beats and classic dancefloor-influenced grooves, Erick is not associated with the club, rave, and DJ cultures that popularized electronic dance music. In fact, Erick is a homebody who would most likely cite My Bloody Valentine, Book of Love, Cactus World News, Smashing Pumpkins, MxPx, New Order, Better Than Ezra, Toad The Wet Sprocket and several relatively obscure bands like Justus, Mylon LeFevre & Broken Heart, and The Technos as influences in his eclectically diverse musical background. He reinforces that CERUMENTRIC is simply a one-man rock band that just happens to use computers in its music. The band is still working on its double-album release, which is already way overdue due to lack of duplication funds. Erick is working on releasing a value-added conceptual album, which includes comix art and a food recipe, as Erick is also a gourmet cook.
