About This Beautiful Day

About Carmel Conway:
Carmel Conway is one of the most exciting talents to emerge from Ireland in a number of years. With her debut album 'This Beautiful Day' released online and on nationwide retail in Ireland on 17th Oct 2008, plans are now being finalised for the album release in the US, Canada and Asia in 2009. Having recently completed a series of highly successful shows in Los Angeles, New York, Boston and Connecticut in addition to her guest appearances with artists like Nanci Griffith, Paul Brady and The Chieftains in Los Angeles and Philadelphia in 2008, Carmel is well on the way to developing her name and profile internationally.

Having wowed audiences all over Ireland with her incredible vocal technique and unique stage presence, she is setting her sights on impressing audiences further afield with the songs from her new album; This Beautiful Day. Featuring a great mix of new, contemporary material and a few of her own versions of better-known songs, Carmel is really excited about the prospects for this album.

From a very young age, Carmel was singing songs by people like Barbara Streisand, The Carpenters and Sarah Brightman and more recently has been influenced by artists such as Josh Groban, Beth Nielsen Chapman, Randy Newman and Jimmy Webb. She received private tuition from an early age and managed to develop an outstanding level of technique which never fails to impress her audiences.

In these earlier years she won many of the major vocal competitions that exist in Ireland and received consistently glowing audience reactions for her solo performances. Carmel commands great audiences everywhere she plays, and is as comfortable in an intimate setting as she is singing to audiences of 2,000 or more at some of the best known concert venues in the US and Ireland, including Walt Disney Hall Los Angeles, The Kimmel Center Philadelphia, The National Concert Hall in Dublin, The Waterfront Hall in Belfast and University Concert Hall Limerick.

In late 2006, a change of musical emphasis saw Carmel begin preparations for her debut album, which was recorded through December 2007 and February 2008 with The Irish Film Orchestra. The album was produced by the renowned arranger / producer Fiachra Trench (Elvis Costello, Van Morrison, The Corrs and many more).

With exciting times ahead in 2009, Limerick’s best kept secret may soon be a household name.

“Gorgeous vocals and lush production, this track from Carmel Conway has a swanky, 1950's big band feel, the "Nelson Riddle" sound.”
