About Mulligan

Anne Deming moved from Chicago to Minneapolis in 1999. Already a rising star in Chicago, she played her first show in Minneapolis at New Band Night at the 7th St. Entry in November of 1999 on the same bill as Armpit Vagina and Screaming Monkey Boner. An interesting start to an interesting career.

Anne started in the coffee shops around the Twin Cities, but quickly found her way to the clubs and larger venues. Her first CD "Beautifully Scarred" was released in July of 2000. The album featured Anne playing 13 original songs varying in style from acoustic rock, to folk, to blues. The album "Beautifully Scarred" was self-released on her own label ("Brutally Honest Records") and was well received by the music fans in the Twin Cities, and was selected for participation in the Best Buy "Find 'em First" promotion. Several tracks from her CD were receiving regular airplay on Minneapolis commercial radio station WXPT during November of 2000. She immediately made an impact on the local Minneapolis music scene, and found her home in the Twin Cities.

Anne's second CD was released in June 2001. The album, entitled "Naked Pictures Inside", was recorded, engineered, and produced by Anne at her home studio. It was initially recorded as a demo to recruit a band, but she (and her fans) liked the sound of the "demo" so much that it ended up to be another successful release. Although not a high enough sound quality for radio use, the CD remains as the favorite of her fan base, and showcases some of Anne's most diverse influences.

In 2002, Anne returned to the studio, teaming up with Brian Johnson and Scott LeGere of Echobay Productions (a team well known for producing songs for such artists as David Gray, Craig David, Cowboy Junkies, and Natalie Merchant). The team approached Anne with a "producing" deal where Anne recorded more than 30 songs acoustically. Brian and Scott then picked four of their favorite songs to produce and add more layers to the music as a showcase item for their company's services. Anne's acoustic music took on a whole new style, and the finished EP, "On Display" is a CD that showcases Echo Bay's vision for Anne's music . . . with the original acoustic versions at the end.

With three successful previous CD's on her own record label, a strong touring record, and growing fan base, Anne continues with her new release for 2004 entitled "Mulligan". "Mulligan" is a truly amazing recording that promises to be Anne's most successful album yet. With assistance from Tom Herbers at Third Ear Studios (engineer for many local Minneapolis favorites including the Honeydogs), Anne assembled an outstanding band featuring Chadley Koppenhaver (drums/percussion), Ben Johnson (upright bass), and Jon Koehler (manager, guitar, piano). "Mulligan" is a return to the classic singer/songwriter format of an Emmylou Harris record - but wrapped up in the unique and alluring qualities that continue to make Anne Deming's music so honest, engaging, and identifiable - folk, rock, blues, and country - something for everybody.

Anne's music has been described as everything from "A voice that moves gracefully through bluesy growls to clear tender passages" to simply "Damn, this girl can sing!" Sometimes blues, sometimes folk, sometimes rock, but always honest. Anne continues to add to her library of over 120 original songs. You can be sure you'll be hearing more from Anne in the near future.
