About Songs For Bright Street

On her new album Songs for Bright Street, New York-based singer/songwriter Amy Speace demonstrates why she's quickly become one of her adopted hometown's most celebrated emerging artists. Possessing a commanding voice, a distinctive melodic sensibility and an uncanny knack for nailing complex emotions in song, Speace makes music that's both illuminating and effortlessly accessible.

From the rustic rush of "Step Out of the Shade" to the bittersweet lilt of "Water Landing" to the gentle acoustic intimacy of "Two," Songs for Bright Street's 12 original compositions (plus a slyly countrified reading of the Blondie classic "Dreaming") showcase Speace's unique gifts, offering catchy Americana with indelible hooks, sharply observed lyrics and a gritty urban edge. Among those impressed by her sassy songcraft is legendary folk-pop songstress Judy Collins, who chose Songs for Bright Street to release on her new Wildflower label.

“This chick's way cooler than Eva Cassidy. Same kinda vibe tho - sweet/smooth but whiskey-roughened voice over really decent players. Good music(al) inspiration too - makes you want to sing along to every track. Highly rec'd!”

“Its own reason to cry every time you hear it, there aren't many sad songs that remain compelling in spite of how hard they can be to hear. It has the rhythm of the road, and the empty echo of loneliness put to harmony. Something personal, and something real.”

“If your a fan of fun loving storytelling lyrics where every twist and phrase is as good as the next and as good as it gets, then this is a gem for you. similiar style examples could be Mary Chapin Carpenter. and added bonus,if any feminists out there, were seaching for a new anthem, this clever and fun ditti could well be up for the running, certainly quailified contender! ....You go Girl!!”

“I don't know from feminism, but I am now among the converted--THIS is the real thing. So where does a guy sign up for the Amy Speace fan club?”

“Says what it 'does on the can' - folky country style - great voice, great production, great album”
CraigH Rec'd this on Oct 11, 2007:

“I could listen to this voice for hours on end... I listen to this voice for hours on end... When it sings softly, as it does on this incredibly beautiful song, it gets inside your heart and you find yourself drifting in a reverie of everything that is beautiful, even while it may be wistful and a little bit sad... Beautiful.”

“If you like the folk/country style of Mary Chapin Carpenter then you will love this simple raw style.”
