Amie Street Help

Top 5 Questions

  1. How are albums priced? in: Browsing and Purchasing Music

Most albums on Amie Street have an album price equal to the total price of all the songs on the album. However, if the total price of all the songs on an album is greater than $8.98 than an Album Price Cap of $8.98 is instituted. Why $8.98? We feel that this price point will give customers incentive to buy full albums (rather than just a few individual songs) and will help Artists to maximize revenue from their music. With certain content providers albums will be more expensive, however, we try our best to keep albums priced at $8.98.

To solve this issue, check to see if the song or album is in the correct place.

  • What bit rate is the music on Amie Street?

Whenever possible, Amie Street encodes mp3s in a variable bit rate (VBR) format, which aims for an average bit rate (ABR) of 256 kbps in order to provide the best combination of high sound quality and small file size. VBR encodes the most complex portions of a song in higher bit rates, while less complex portions are encoded in a lower bit rate.

Amie Street does not have control over the bit rate, and overall sound quality, of music that individual artists upload directly to Amie Street (as opposed to a Record Label or Music Distributor that sends us their music to upload onto the site). Therefore, some songs on Amie Street may be encoded in a lower bit rate than our 256kbps ABR. We understand the importance of sound quality when purchasing music and are always working to improve the overall sound quality of our catalog.

For more information on the format of a particular album, checkout the "Format" field right under the album art on any album page.

  • What is a REC?

A REC is short for recommendation, and the REC system helps you discover and download new-to-you music on Amie Street. What makes the REC system awesome is that you get money usable toward the purchase of more music simply by recommending your favorite songs.

You can REC any song you have purchased by writing a short review and/or telling other users who it sounds like. You receive money as the song you’ve REC’d becomes more popular with other Amie Street members. A rise in popularity means a rise in the price of the song. If the song becomes more popular, you are then rewarded with more money in your account.

If you REC a song while it’s free and it subsequently rises in price to 98 cents, you can Cash Out and get that 98 cents back to spend on more music. If you REC a song that is priced at 1 cent or higher, you’ll get half the difference back into your account when you Cash Out. Make money by leaving a shout-out for your favorite artists? What could be better than that?

You get RECs every time you purchase a credit package on Amie Street, and you use up one of your RECs each time you REC a song.

    close
  • How do I Cash Out a REC?

You can Cash Out any REC you’ve made by going to My RECs. Just find the REC you’d like to Cash Out and click on the "Cash Out Now" link. Once you Cash Out, the money you’ve earned for that REC is placed in your account for use toward the purchase of more music.
