Track: Oh, Death!
(
FREE
)
Artist: Pearl & The Beard
“We think of Death as morbid, gothic--dark. Pearl and The Beard prove there's more to it than that, and everyone who needs to be reminded of this fact should listen to this song at least once.
And then a second, third, and fourth time. Lovely folk, and really is almost a perfect example of what many people think of as being folk.”

“This is a very quirky song...the lyrics are not as shallow as some other songs, so for that we're grateful... :P
The harmonies are addicting, and the more you listen to them, the more you are swept away by the intricate twists this talented composer decides to throw in....”

“Never head this band before, you either like it or hate it - especially the female singer. This sounds very retro, suitable for the punk scene somehow. Reminicent of Swedish 80-90s bands.”

“Very uplifting track. Reminds me of Esthero or Madeline Peyroux. I am actually able to put this in my playlists and it blends in with anything I am playing. Great for a Saturday or Sunday "around the house" listening. ”

“I remember when I first heard this. It was around 1972 and I was shopping for music. The store put this on and I was knocked out. The beat was so heavy, all I could do was move. I played the grooves off of the LP. Everyone I knew at the time was kicking this song.”

“So, you probably figured out that this song's free forever here, right? So you know that I'm not REC'cing this for the money. (It's for the fame, actually.) But how can you not love The Hold Steady? They hit hard and swing heavy, the guitar hooks stick like glue and Finn's lyrics cut to the bone, the bone, and it all goes to show that anyone younger than thirty should stick to playing covers: there's no way that you can write lyrics this good without some years under your belt.”

“quirky voice, chalky and strained and soulful at the same time with some good back-up instrumentals but I'm sure he'd be great a capella too. ”

“This is one of brightest songs ever. I am a HUGE fan of David Hopkins. He recently recorded a song with Damien Rice on a new album "There Are Debts" (itunes).
He has consistently put out only good albums and this is a good album.”

“A quiet beginning of just voice and guitar at first, then it really opens up in the middle with full instrumentation including piano and some nice female backing vocals. A sort of jazzy feel to the middle as well, but overall, it's just an interesting pop song.”

“Great song from a great band. The Boston scene has always been home to the best indie rock bands.”

“This song is one of two songs on the album already recorded by B&S. It was also the subject of a singing competition on imeem. It rocks in a great sixties girl group kind of vibe, complete with strings.”

“I just saw these guys live and they are amazing. The studio tracks do not disappoint, but they are nothing compared to the live show. Very mellow, soulful, and chill. Amazing band.”

“Edmund Niemann & Nurit Tille performing this John Cage composition. The piece is slower and less frantic that other works on this album. ”

“One of the highlight trackS on the album: reminiscent of MBV which I think is always a good thing.”
