What, Me Worry?

October 11th, 2007
Abelardo Barroso

Think back to a time when Guantánamo meant sugarcane and cool rivers, when dance music was sweaty because of the sun and not crowded clubs: the '50s. A surreally utopian decade of consequence-free cigarettes and happy marriages, the 1950s had an equally romantic soundtrack with artists like Abelardo Barroso and his group's airy mambo.

is music for swimming pools and yacht decks -- songs that don't sound quite right with your eyes fully open. Their version of Play Button Besame Mucho isn't groundbreaking, but simple and sultry as it should be. Just try dancing to this stuff with anything other than a wry smile on your face.
