On this debut LP for Domino Records, Kendal's Wild Beasts spill their guts across the room with a lusty flamboyance unrivaled in its uniqueness. Vocalist Hayden Thorpe is a force to be reckoned with; transitioning from feral growl to soaring falsetto with arresting proficiency, he declares on The Club Of Fathomless Love , "I'm not a soft touch and I won't be seen as such."

Although Thorpe's erotic lyrics may border on the burlesque, his purpose remains ambiguous in its determination, with his delightful songs constantly begging for another listen. If hard-pressed to imagine the beautiful weirdness of the Wild Beasts, just think of the soundtrack to Dave Longstreth and David Bowie's lovechild being weaned by aliens.
