Under $3 (For Now): Toro Y Moi, “Left Alone…” EP

The "Left Alone At Night" EP by Toro Y Moi is one of those little reminders of why Amie Street is so recession-friendly. It costs you nothing (right now at least) to download this EP to your respective choice of mp3 player. When your friends ask you why you refuse to stop strutting down the street like you're in the title scene of Reservoir Dogs, just tell them about this EP. That's all; it's a beautiful thing.
Loaded with groaning bass, screeching synths and the voice of Chaz Bundick, AKA Toro Y Moi, this is a funked taste of what's to come from an artist you need to keep your ear tuned to. Particularly if you like to move. Oh yeah -- there's some great remixes in here, too. The Afro Digi Scratch Remix is so appropriately dirty. This is a banging song and deserves a distorted, chopped track to follow it up. It's the kind of remix that makes you want to destroy the zombie hordes that plague your neighborhoods at night. It crushes in the right kind of way. Where the Afro Digi Remix is for nothing less than necro-warfare, the Tom Lown Remix is straight fun in the dancehall, so put away the axe. "Left Alone" is a great get-up jam for the summer from an artist that seems to have much more in store for us. Toro Y Moi is a recent addition to DC's Carpark Records (Beach House, Dan Deacon, Ear Pwr). So with the money that you would have spent on this EP, you can pay for admission to the summer tour with Ear Pwr. Enjoy.
