The Seedy Seeds continue to “Change States”

September 6th, 2007
The Seedy Seeds

It's been long enough to call it "forever" since we first posted on these pages about The Seedy Seeds, but it's only been a few days since the duo from Cincinnati have finally posted the last remaining track from the fantastic record

. Let this post serve as a reminder to pick up Play Button Grace if you've been slowly buying the record as it's been posted like I have, or as a call to action to get with the program if you haven't yet been paying attention.

Play Button Grace features more of the same buoyant, jangly banjo-electro-pop we've come to expect from The Seedy Seeds, but beneath the fun and games of the instrumentation hides a bleak, melancholy narrative about the wedding of a condemned prisoner (yeah, really.) You'd be hard pressed to find song with darker lyrics and a lighter sound anywhere in the universe.

If this is your first exposure to this Amie Street favorite, here are some more great starting points, courtesy of RECs by your peers:

Play Button Eponym (

)

"The track reminds me of high school back in the mid 90s when grunge ruled and I didn't miss an episode of MTV's 120 Minutes with Matt Pinfield. The chorus reminds me something off Day Dream Nation, my favorite Sonic Youth album, if President's of the United States recorded it. Earnest acoustic rock with sparse electronic bass and banjos. Good Stuff!" [REC by andrew.oswald]

Play Button The Little Patton (

)

"Love this! Heard it on woxy. Discovered The Seedy Seeds music was less than accessible, then found Amie Street. This is a very infectious little tune." [REC by lindsey]

Play Button Earned Average Dance America (

)

"A cheeky, bouncy nugget of perky electropop. Listening to the Seedy Seeds jump-starts your long- hidden inner five-year-old and gets your booty shaking like an ADHD sufferer in a minor earthquake. It's like a chemical-laced sugar rush fom eating too many blue smarties, its a toddler's birthday party where you're secretley enjoying it more than they are, its as joyful as that bit in "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" where Jim Carey becomes Baby Joel. In short, it's brilliant and I think you're going to love it." [REC by nicklockey]
