SXSW 2008: Day 2 Recap

Some quick highlights of our second day in Texas: a crazy set by Iceland's Reykjavik!, some lo-fi noise from Times New Viking, and the grime star Dizzee Rascal. Read more after the break!
Reykjavik! played the upstairs area of Maggie Mae's, with the members of the band jumping into the audience, climbing on top of the speakers, spitting, screaming, and playing loud, loud music. It was great. Never before seen someone on stage spit in the air and have it land back on their own face.
(As far as biographical info, the guitarist informed us that they are all the children of polar bears, Björk, and "the guys from Sigur Rós.")
Times New Viking brought their gloriously almost-terrible rock to the Soho Lounge. It was rough, raw, grungy, and pretty much the antithesis of crisp pop radio. Next time you feel like having your ears bleed and your landlord evict you for noise complaints... well, you didn't hear it from us.
Finally, after what felt like a 75-mile hike away from
everything else happening downtown, Dizzee Rascal played a
quick, energetic set to a packed crowd at the Scoot Inn. By far
the best part was getting everyone to sing the chorus to his
encore,
Fix Up, Look Sharp
. ("I... hear the big
beat!")
Resolution for tomorrow: take more pictures!
