Soulful Sounds from Haiti

September 12th, 2007
Karlex

Karlex is a Haitian singer-songwriter with a soulful sound. He grew up in a musical family: two of his uncles were local musicians and his mother was the musical director of the local church choir. As he grew older, Karlex began visiting New York where he and his friends listened to WBLS -- leading to a fascination with many new styles of music. While in his teens, the budding musician moved to New York for good and began playing in pop, rock, and world music bands. After years of hard work, he released his debut album,

, which soon garnered international praise and led to numerous television appearances throughout Europe. The record mixes various elements of reggae, soul, and pop music with a positive message aimed at bringing people together. Isn't that what music's all about?
