RECs of the Week
April 19th, 2008
(I'm new here. What is a REC?)
THE SWINGIN' EDGAR POE REC
Lord Buckley was one hip cat, an old white guy who performed with the craziest hipster slang you've ever been rapped at with. This track is the perfect intro to his spoken word stuff, a jazzy revision of Edgar Allen Poe's "The Raven," redubbed "The Bug Bird." Give it a listen, you'll flip your wig.
THE IF ONLY REC
nice to listen to while lying on the beach in Hawaii, LOL
THE ADDICTED 2 U REC
Amie St has become so addictive because it is possible to discover great bands like the Sames. I think the song would appeal to fans of bands such as the Shins, Modest Mouse, or Wolf Parade. Great indie rock with good musicianship, vocals, and interesting lyrics.
THE IF I MUST REC
THE DAY OFF FOR THE ROBOTS REC
Its like daft punk decided to take some prozac and walk around hugging kittens.
THE HIT REPEAT REC
An ingenious rendition of a classic Miles Davis song with outstanding harmonies and solos, I hear something new and cool every time I listen to this.
THE FAMILIAR (BUT NOT TOO) REC
Sugarcubes-era Bjork-meets-early Feist in this song, which is uptempo but not too, panoramic, and rolling. Perfect for a trip in a car or a stroll through the bustle of a city, where you feel surrounded yet alone at the same time.
THE HAZY VISIONS REC
A haunting, mystical piece evocative of mist covered mountains, winding tracks, and tiny villages hidden away in deep valleys.
THE STEP 1, STEP 2, STEP 3 REC
Cheekbone Hollows...the first song I heard by the Child Ballads, that introduced me to their awesome, unique sound. Buy it, listen to it, then buy the rest of their songs.
THE NOT JUST A CATCHY NAME REC
if you like your alterna-garage rock as raw as it comes (and who doesn't?), you love this...may have actually been recorded in a garage.
