Put On Your Disco Shoes
Remember when people started dancing again? Felix Da Housecat celebrates the never-too-cool-to-have-fun lifestyle, the hedonism of the 1970s and '80s -- and maybe even Sting's birthday -- with today's release of the infinitely likeable
For the shimmering vocals on lead single
Like Something For Porno
and
NightTripperz
, Felix brings in Russian actress and socialite
Zhanna, who looks and sounds like she's straight out of the Italian
clubs these songs evoke On
Monkey Cage
, the two sing
together over pumping synth-pop and pretty much achieve his
intention for the album: "I wanted to go like George Michael and
the Pet Shop Boys, only them being black."
Most of the tracks clock in at a brisk two or three minutes, but
as if to prove he's not just a catchy pop genius, Felix closes with
the epic
The Future Calls The Dawn
-- a hands-in-the-air killer, moving
on from disco throwbacks to define the club sound of 2008.
Touring everywhere from Montreal to Dubai and set to produce Diddy's new album, Felix Da Housecat has ensured that his name and music will stay on our minds: "To guys like Justice, Digitalism and Boyz Noize, I'm more of an 'old school contemporary' guy. I leave it up to them to make the noise, 'cos I've done that. Now I'm more into making songs, telling stories and good melodies - sorta like how Prince was."
