Twisted Sister was one of the premier glam rock bands of the '80s. With their in-your-face attitude and outrageous wardrobe, the band went on to release some of the biggest arena rock anthems of all time, including "We're Not Gonna Take It" and "I Wanna Rock." Live At The London Astoria was recorded in 2004 and captures the full Twisted Sister experience; guitarist Jay Jay French said that "each bandmember considered that night to be amongst the most special of our careers." A perfect way to expand your Twisted Sister collection well beyond their MTV hits.
Sounds Like: Alice Cooper + Van Halen + The New York Dolls
His name might sound like a character in a nineteenth-century novel, but Alfred Darlington is actually an incredibly talented producer who goes by Daedelus (and is part of The Long Lost with his sister). His music is experimental electronica with a strong pop sensibility, and was described by the BBC as "Boards of Canada on uppers." This EP collects remixes of tracks from Love To Make Music To, including a crazy glam-rock version by The Death Set that we're giving you, on the house!
Sounds Like: Prefuse 73 + Boards of Canada + The Postal Service
Josephine Olausson (lead singer for Love Is All) has a lot on her mind. The band's second album, A Hundred Things Keep Me Up at Night, is filled with lyrics about Olausson's battles with loneliness and vulnerability. But unlike the typical sound that accompanies introspective lyrics, this album is full of energy and spunk, combining art punk and indie rock that Pitchfork describes as "sax-blasted garage-disco."
Sounds Like: Huggy Bear + Ted Leo + Pharmacists + Los Campesinos!
With the release of his 2004 debut album, Brother, Bring The Sun, singer-songwriter Dave Barnes gained the attention of Amy Grant, Vince Gill and John Mayer for his smooth, soulful voice and command for pop songwriting. Since then, he's gone on tour with Hanson and collaborated with Marc Broussard, Josh Hoge, and Matt Wertz. His newest album, Me and You and the World, is "tuneful, inventive, and unfailingly catchy" (Allmusic).
Sounds Like: Gavin DeGraw + Matt Wertz + Marc Broussard
If you're throwing a party in the jungle anytime soon, you'd best throw on the new album from Polish duo Catz 'n Dogz. A mixture of ultra-precise techno and sweaty, tribal drumming, Stars of Zoo is a truly wild experience that Resident Advisor said "could soundtrack the scene in a '60s b-movie where our hero is chased through a vine-heavy rainforest."
Sounds Like: Tarzan + Matthew Dear + Ricardo Villalobos
One half of the revolutionary political rap duo dead prez, stic.man produced their huge singles "Hip Hop" (Dave's intro music on Chappelle's Show) and "Hell Yeah" (featured in The Fast and The Furious). His solo debut explores the idea of "manhood" in the 21st century, which he says is "the relationship to the women in our lives... to the business we need to handle... to each other as brothers [and] to the system."
Sounds Like: N.W.A + Public Enemy + Immortal Technique
