New Music Tuesday
Rolling Stone sums it up pretty well: "There are more important rock groups than Eagles of Death Metal, but are any of them this much fun?" The brand new album, released today exclusively on Amie Street, is a gleeful blend of the glam, garage, and blues-rock bands of the 1970s, but with Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age) and Jesse Hughes behind the wheel, the line between parody and loving homage is almost nonexistent. Heart On is so earnestly sleazy that your dad might mistake it for an old Grand Funk Railroad album -- just don't say the title out loud when your mom's in the room.
Ingrid Michaelson's independently released debut shot to the top of the charts, selling over 100,000 copies and gaining attention from The New York Times, People Magazine, CNN and MTV. Her second album, Be OK, shows her amazing talent for creating deeply emotional, charming, and heartwarming pop songs, including a live version of her huge hit, "The Way I Am," and charming covers of the classics "Over The Rainbow" and "Fools Rush In." Amie Street is proud to partner with Ingrid in our ongoing Download To Make A Difference campaign. From now through November 3rd, you can download Be OK for $5 and a matching donation will be made to Stand Up To Cancer.
The music of Mount Eerie and The Microphones has always been a very personal, almost voyeuristic view inside the mind of Phil Elverum. Dawn is a snapshot of an intensely creative period of Elverum's life -- the winter of 2002-2003 spent in arctic Norway -- and includes lost tracks newly recorded with just guitar and vocals. Elverum says the album was "me playing a live show in my house to nobody," offering a glimpse into the life of an artist celebrated for his candid songwriting. Dawn is making its digital premiere on Amie Street two weeks before the worldwide release!
Cincinnati indie-pop duo The Seedy Seeds are back with a brand new album, Count The Days. The band has received a ton of acclaim from popular music blogs like Idolator, who said that the group makes accordions, banjos, and cheap drum machines (a combination they call Appalachitronica) "sound so fresh, yet so familiar." The Seedy Seeds are offering their brand new album for only $3, with the song "Drive Me To The Center" as a complimentary download, exclusively on Amie Street!
The hazy samples, children's voices, and tropical percussion scattered throughout El Guincho's Alegranza! are like colorful debris from an all-night beach party. His music has been compared to Animal Collective and Panda Bear, but the sound of Alegranza! (which he calls "space-age exotica") is all his own. Pitchfork put its finger on why this album is so appealing: "On the one hand, it reminds you of so much other music you love, and on the other, it sounds little like any of them."
Los Angeles indie folk quartet The Whispertown 2000 are releasing their debut album Swim after much anticipation. The band has already gained some notable fans, including Gillian Welch, who signed the band to her label Acony Records, and Jenny Lewis, who has cited the group as one of her favorite bands. With songs varying from fun and quirky to lonesome and introspective, this is an album that's sure to stay fresh even after many repeat listens.
