Kimya Dawson

Kimya Dawson

Alphabutt is Kimya Dawson's first release since contributing to the hit soundtrack for the movie Juno. Inspired in part by her two-year old daughter Panda Delilah, the album is Dawson's first children's album and features lots of kids singing and toy instruments. Unlike typical children's albums, Alphabutt manages to please adults too, with Pitchfork recommending that "any parent tired of the SpongeBob SquarePants theme would do well by their tots to pick this up."

Iced Earth

Iced Earth

If the new Metallica album just isn't doing it for you, Iced Earth is the answer to your metal woes! Heavily influenced by the speed- and power-metal scenes of the 1980s, notably English bands Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, Iced Earth know what it means to thrash. They also know a thing or two about concept albums: The Crucible Of Man: Something Wicked Part 2 continues a detailed story written by founding member and rhythm guitarist Jon Schaffer, and is described by their label as "a parable about the evolution of humanity with all its faults and obvious failings, its immaturity and missed opportunities." With original singer Matt Barlow belting out the vocals -- back by popular request! -- this new album is Iced Earth doing what they do best.

Emilíana Torrini

Emiliana Torrini

Chances are you've heard (and enjoyed) Emilíana Torrini's music; she's written chart-topping singles for Kylie Minogue and performed the plaintive "Gollum's Song" in Lord of the Rings. With her solo recordings she's built a devoted fan-base, and her newest album Me And Armini is a warmer, more upbeat expansion on her clear, folky sound. Produced by Dan Carey (Hot Chip, Franz Ferdinand), the album will make you fall in love with Emilíana, who "shines above the current crop as a songwriter of luminous talent" (Telegraph).

Common Market

Common Market

Named "Best New Artist" by the Seattle Times in 2006, Common Market has become a fixture in the Pacific Northwest hip hop scene. DJ/producer Sabzi's other group Blue Scholars has been blowing up in 2008, bringing acclaim and exposure to both acts -- Common Market has performed with Ghostface Killah, The Coup, Zion I, and KRS-One. They built up much anticipation for this new record by sending out "Tobacco Road" as a single, and Spin.com wrote "If the title track is any indication, hip-hop heads will be nodding along to a mature and nuanced record."

Brooke Waggoner

Brooke Waggoner

Brooke Waggoner's first album, Fresh Pair Of Eyes, earned the attention of NPR and The New York Times for its whimsical chamber pop. Waggoner just earned a place on Paste's "25 Next Best List" -- they said "we dare you to think of her as just another girl with a piano" -- and her second album, Heal for the Honey, is already picking up steam. We expect her to get even bigger with her upcoming features in Entertainment Weekly, NME, Sunday Times (UK), CMJ, Performing Songwriter Magazine, and ABC's new series, Greek.

The Guggenheim Grotto

The Guggenheim Grotto

The Guggenheim Grotto are giving Amie Street a sneak peek at their new album with Tigers EP. This exclusive release features two tracks from the new album, Happy The Man, as well as a recent single released in Ireland entitled "Waking Up in America." The group's first album Waltzing Alone received acclaim from major publications such as The Washington Post, The Boston Globe and Paste Magazine, who called it "first-rate acoustic pop." In addition to honing their signature sound, this preview shows the Irish trio venturing into new territory where they marry rock and electronica with their intimate acoustic sensibilities and flawless vocal harmonies.
