Jotto Brings Raw, Gritty Rock to Amie Street
May 9th, 2007
This week Amie Street is bringing you
With a history in white rapping, Adderall addiction, and Rush cover tunes, Philadelphia's Jotto are bringing poetry back to Rock'n'Roll (for better or worse), while sounding like the kind of band that would open for Panic! At the Disco. They're the danciest group to ever be inspired by Nick Drake and the most profound band to ever cite Now! That's What I Call Music Vol. 22 as an influence. Jotto's sound relies on fast, jingly jangly guitars, Mario Brothers-style keyboards, an overabundance of cymbals, and I'm-too-cool-to-strain-my-voice-or-open-my- mouth-more-than-halfway-vocals. Right now the five-piece can be found playing the clubs, bars, warehouses, and converted townhouses of NYC and Philadelphia, but by the Fall they'll have a new EP and be well on their way to taking over the world of Dance Rock. Or at least have 16-year-old scenesters up and down the East Coast reading E.E. Cummings. [Izzy Cihak of Baltimore City Paper, GirlPunk.Net and Burning Angel]
They've found a niche to connect different genres of music to produce their own recognizable sound and style."[David Frankel- IMC Magazine]
